A two-foot corn snake rode 20 miles from Bridlington to Scarborough tucked in a car's engine bay, then popped its head out through the headlight when the car parked up.
Passers-by rang 101, the police called Dave, and he spent two hours carefully unwinding it from the strut spring without hurting it.
He then tracked the owner down through Facebook by matching the snake's markings to their photos.
The story was picked up by SWNS and ran in papers as far away as the US, including the Yorkshire Post and the Gazette & Herald.
